My mom came to visit me in NYC and we really got into some raw food preparation. She bought new cabbages from the farmers market in green and red and we made this incredible slaw.

For those of you who are in transition including myself. Here is a recipe that is half cooked and half raw. I like to start with one simple cooked ingredient and everything else in the recipe is raw.
Cooked Ingredients
2 c cooked organic brown rice
Raw Ingredients
2 organic plum tomatoes
1/4 c organic cilantro
1/4 c organic italian parsley
1/4 c organic red onion
1/4 c organic green onions
2 tbls raw organic tahini
1 tbls organic olive oil
1 tbls organic flax oil
Seasoning
1 tbls organic sesame oil
1 tbls organic tamari soy sauce
Celtic Sea Salt
Pepper
Cook rice to desired tenderness. Chop vegetables into small pieces. Mix ingredients together. The Tahini gives the rice its sauce and great flavor. You could make this dish completely raw by replacing the rice with soaked wheat berries or soaked bulgar wheat.

Yes, this is Raw Food. Raw Soul, a raw food restaurant in Harlem, presented their cuisine in a lecture at Whole Foods Market last Sunday in Edgewater, NJ. I met the most interesting people and of course, tasted the most fabulous “Raw”, yes Raw food. I bought their recipe book and picked up some flyers. I also got invited to a raw food thanksgiving called a “Thanksliving”. How cool is that? I will continue to post information about what I learned there. You are looking at Sweet and Sour “Neetballs”, a green bean something or other, and pilaf. Here is a list of ingredients that they shared. I did not get the ingredients for the raw brownie, but it was scrumdillyicious.
Green Beans
green beans, olive oil, garlic, cumin, chili powder, sea salt, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar
Pilaf
sprouted wheat berries, bulgar wheat soaked, tumeric, olives, sea salt, chili powder, corriander
Neetballs
pecans, sprouted sunflower seeds, walnuts, chinese 5-spice, corriander, cilantro
Sweet & Sour Sauce
sundried tomato, red bell pepper, beets, apple cider vinegar, dates, mustard, cayenne pepper
Here are some pics of the Chefs, Lillian and Eddie and the party.

The morning is my best time. I have the most energy at this time. Today I tried a new product. I am always trying new things. That is what is fun about becoming a vegetarian. By the way, becoming a vegetarian is not something you do over night. It is a process of discovery. It requires dedication and research if you want to be successful and have a long healthy life.
The product I introduced today is a powered “Bee” complex with Ginseng and Herbs called Royal Rush. That’s right, a Bee…. Bees produce a highly concentrated source of nutrition called royal jelly, pollen, and propolis. All of these bee products are derived from the hive before they are made into honey. Honey is last in the cycle.
I mixed the Royal Rush with Field of Greensand orange juice for a morning energy drink. It was great.
Some vegetarians do not use bee products. I have not researched the reasons why yet. So far I am grateful for bees and bee keepers. Here is a shot of a “Rooftop Bee Keeper” at the Farmers Market at Union Square in NYC. He sells other stuff also, but is known for the NYC Roof Top Honey.

I really wanted to catch you up on the past 4 months but I could not help today by starting you out with my morning routine. The first thing that I do after about 30 minutes worth of yoga practice is drink a very large glass of warm water with fresh organic lemon juice. This is absolutely the best way to hydrate and get your digestion moving first thing in the morning.

The next thing that I do is take supplements. Whole Foods Market has the most comprehensive and best selection of supplements I have ever experienced. I take krill oil, gingko biloba, siberian ginseng, wild blue green algae, chlorella, spirulina, marine greens, bee pollen, propolis, royal jelly and powdered greens. All of these superfoods have made a huge difference in my energy level, especially while experimenting with my diet. I was confident that I was getting the nutrition that I needed.

Then I drink Field of Greens, a powdered greens mixed with orange juice or carrot juice. I use bottled juices for this. I go through quite a bit. The best brand for bottled juices is Lakewood Juices, no doubt. I have done the homework friends.
More to come.

During the summer of 2008 I was in Barnes & Noble looking for a book by Wayne Dyer on the Tao Te Ching. They didn’t have the book. Instead another book caught my eye called “Your Are What You Eat”. The book literally just fell off the shelf into my hands with its bright green cover and raw content. This book changed my life dramatically. I wasn’t even looking for a lifestyle change or even a diet to lose weight. It is now October 28, 2008, my 44th birthday and I am writing this blog. I have lost 20 lbs since June through subtle changes in my diet. I am currently around 80% raw and 95% organic. I eliminated fried foods, frozen foods, processed foods all at once at the front end. Then I gradually eliminated wheat, dairy, and flesh. After that I started to eliminate cooked foods. I started to use food as an experiment. I started supplementing with superfoods and drinking fresh vegetable juices. I have added some cooked foods back into my diet along with sheep yogurt and a little goat cheese. I stopped eating out in restaurants. That alone will shift your consciousness. I prepare all of my own food. I have come to realize that this is an act of love. More to come.
